From Margery Verlezza...

A friend of mine (I wish I could remember who so I could give them credit) recommended The Jerusalem Maiden by Talia Carner to me. Always looking for a book (or film) with a Jewish theme, I downloaded it and was quickly swept away into the 1900’s life of Esther Kaminsky, a young Haredi girl living in Jerusalem with her life totally mapped out for her at birth. Her destiny – to get married young and produce many, preferably male, children. But Esther was feisty and had other ideas. We have heard many stories of Orthodox girls leaving their strict Orthodox sects
but this one was different. Besides finding her own path, Esther had to answer to G-d and she believed G-d was watching every move, even as she defiled the second commandment.

Jerusalem Maiden will be the first book we read and discuss this year. Join us on Sunday, October 10, at 11 am (place to be determined) as we evaluate Esther’s choices.

Everyone is welcome and we would love to have you join us. Have you read a great book you want to share? Please email margeryv@optonline.net to share that title and be added to the group.

Hope to see you then!
